Michael J.

Connecticut Mike a.k.a. Mr. Wilson

Michael J is the creator and host of Griot World and Connecticut Mike and The Archaeologist. He is a graduate of Hampton University and has traveled the world as a scholar, lecturer and educational ambassador.  Known as the "Puppet Man" in Harlem, Michael J and the Griot World Ensemble are "bringing life to learning" by incorporating storytelling, music, puppetry and archaeology to story of the African Diaspora.

C. "Monk" Washington

C. Monk. Washington is known as the musical griot, he was born and raised in Harlem, USA. "Monk" is the lead singer and guitarist for the Band Droidz.  He is a talented and captivating musician, song writer and performer.  Monk's unique and distinctive voice and sound takes his audience on a magical and musical journey that is love and positivity.

 

 

Sophia Loren Coffee

Coffee The Empress a.k.a Grandma Griot

In the heart of Harlem is where you will find Sophia Loren Coffee on the world famous 125th street.  She is known as the Earring Ambassador among other things. She has a Liberal Arts Degree from Columbia School of the Arts, is a jewelry designer, a singer, a song-writer, actress, and entertainment producer. She has toured the world as an actress and singer.  She is proud to say that she is from Chicago, and the south-side where she learned the good and the hard knocks of life.

Brother Kamau

The Drummer

Brother Kamau is a talented drummer with a passion for teaching the next generation the art of West African drumming.  With over twenty of experience Brother Kamau has been bringing joy and happiness to schools, community and faith based organizations.  As part of the Griot World Ensemble youth and families get a chance to enjoy an amazing journey that takes them back to a time when the village came together to listen to the elders and Griots share stories of life, love and families.
